Introduction

Platelet- derived growth factors are naturally synthesized polypeptides, functioning as potent biologic mediators stimulating various cellular activities during wound healing, like cell proliferation, differentiation, and matrix synthesis, and thereby facilitating periodontal regeneration.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest and developing technologies for the use of autologous platelet concentrates in treatment of many intraoral clinical conditions, including periodontal defects, soft tissue and sinus augmentation and implant site development. However, the time for release, number and types of growth factorsas well as fibrin,  leukocyte content and physical properties of the product after platelet activation are readily affected by centrifugation machine design, spin time and numbers, stimulator of activations and technology protocol and standardization.

The course will give full protocols to follow for blood sampling and preparation of different autologous platelet concentrates with hands-on training on volunteers and will introduce you to the most advanced procedures and applications of autologous platelet concentrates through live demonstrations on patients and cases presentations. The course is fundamental for all dental team members introducing implantand periodontal surgeries in their office.

Intended Learning Objectives

  • Theoretical:
  • Develop knowledge aboutbiological basis of the use of platelet concentrates in soft tissue management and bone augmentation.
  • Understand the pros and cons, applications and factors affecting the outcomes of variousprotocols of autologous platelet concentrates in implant and periodontal therapies.
  • Overview the wide varieties of autologous platelet concentratesapplications in dental office.
  • Practical:
  • Exercise safe and easy blood sampling procedure to be used in preparation of platelet concentrates.
  • Master the clinical skills, techniques, technologiesand applications of different forms of platelet concentrates in implantand periodontal surgeries including; Plasma Rich in Growth Factors (PRGF), Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin (A-PRF), Leukocyte Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF), Injectable Platelet Rich Fibrin (i-PRF) and Sticky Bone.
