Modern dental practice nowadays is entrenched in the era of minimal intervention aiming for maximum preservation of the structure, function, and esthetics of the restorative system. Management of deep carious lesions has shifted its focus more towards controlling the disease due to better understanding of its basic process and advances in dental technologies and material science. The management of deep dentinal caries still poses a major contest to the dental practitioners due to the absence of a reliable way to predict the future development of the disease and tissue response. Considering these modern principles, it is important to realize that it is a multifactorial approach not only driven by the operator’s skills and decisions but also modified by patient's conditions and material limitations. The main aim of this session is the introduction of the modern philosophy and its principles in to the daily clinical practice.
