The dental profession continuously demonstrates innovations and improvements on many fronts. Digital dentistry includes a broad array of technologies that bring communication, documentation, manufacturing and delivering of dental therapy under the umbrella of computer-based algorithms.

Computer-based technology has an ever-expanding impact upon dentistry with enhanced data acquisition and fabrication capabilities. Recently, this technology has been applied to removable prosthodontics. The successful use of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) in the fabrication of fixed-detachable prothesis, complete dentures, and removable partial dentures, along with the shortage of qualified dental laboratory technicians encouraged its application in the field of removable prosthodontics.

Exclusive design softwares and coordinated materials combined with controlled manufacturing strategies provide predictable and accurate results which will likely dominate the future of removable prosthodontics.
